![]() The weird thing is that Derulo’s latest song seems to agree with me. ![]() So now Derulo’s career has one message: “If you want to be a successful and rich pop artist, don’t try to create complex pieces of art just be a sexist arse and then society will hand you everything you want”. Apparently our society is one which responds to ugliness, smugness and bullshit they proved that when they voted for the Conservatives (yep, my politics are still left-wing) and they proved it again when they decided buy Jason Derulo’s record instead of Carly Rae Jepsen’s. ![]() And that was successful too it was another big hit. And then he released Wiggle which is like Talk Dirty To Me but more so, being a song for people who didn’t think Talk Dirty To Me objectified women enough. Indeed, it’s one of the most popular things that Derulo’s ever released. The thing is, Talk Dirty To Me was really popular. It has a good saxophone riff (sampled from another song) and that’s it. Whether it’s the song’s open sexism, it’s celebration of it’s own ignorance, it’s horrific insensitivity or just it’s utter stink of smugness, there’s no way to enjoy it. There are so many reasons to hate Talk Dirty To Me. Then Derulo decided to give up and the result was Talk Dirty to Me, a song I genuinely regret leaving off my Worst of 2014 list. His songs tried to be romantic, they tried to flatter their target, they tried to be emotional and mature. I detest Jason Derulo because I detest everything he says about our culture. This year, I’ve challenged myself to write a review of every song that manages to get to No.
